The popular anime series Kaiju No. 8 is gearing up for an action-packed summer with the announcement of its second season premiere and exciting developments for the Kaiju No. 8 the Game. Fans can mark their calendars for July 19th, when the new season will debut on TV Tokyo and affiliated channels at 11:00 p.m. JST (10:00 a.m. EDT). In an exciting move for international viewers, the season will also stream on X (formerly Twitter) worldwide in real-time alongside the Japanese broadcast.
But the anime excitement doesn’t stop there! Before the season premiere, a special side story episode titled "Hoshina's Day Off" will air on July 5th on TV Tokyo and affiliates at 11:00 p.m. JST (10:00 a.m. EDT), and will also stream on X/Twitter worldwide in real time as it airs. The first season compilation film Kaiju No. 8: Mission Recon included this new original episode, with Yūto Tsukuda (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma original creator) credited as the writer and Yuichiro Kido (Dr. Stone) as the scriptwriter.
Adding to the anticipation, Akatsuki Games has revealed details about Kaiju No. 8 the Game, a smartphone and PC title inspired by the anime franchise. The game features an original story centered around "identified monsters" resurfacing through the mysterious "Monster Dimension Gate." Players will follow Sagan Shinomiya, an original character voiced by Akari Kitō, who leads the special forces unit "CLOZER" in investigating the gate's origins.
The game's storyline promises a unique exploration of the Kaiju No. 8 universe. Set to launch on iOS, Android, and PC via Steam, the App Store listing suggests a release date of August 31st.
Kōki Uchiyama will join the cast as Gen Harumi in the second season of the anime. Adapted from Naoya Matsumoto's manga of the same name, Kaiju No. 8 follows Kafka Hibino, a man who gains the ability to transform into a kaiju. He joins the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force to fight alongside his childhood friend, Mina Ashiro, and protect humanity from the monstrous threat. The first season premiered in April 2024 and was streamed by Crunchyroll with English subtitles and dub.
